Eat your way around Central London Gluten Free – THE Coeliac’s guide to safe food

I’m Kate and I’m a Coeliac foodie… And I’ve been eating my way around London for years. I live to eat and when I travel, I ALWAYS seek out the best places to find safe gluten free food. It’s important right? I mean why bother to travel if you can’t eat well?

And that’s why you can trust this guide to Gluten Free Central London… It’s been put together with tried and tested gluten free LOVE… By someone who always asks the right Celiac / Coeliac-specific questions (yep… the ones about food preparation and cross-contamination). And who wants to share everything I discover with the gluten free community.

It’s been a long time in the research… Central London has a LOT of places to eat. This is truly the ULTIMATE Central London gluten free guide. With some 55 eatery independents/brands spread across 125 individual restaurants, cafes and venues. But nonetheless, I’m sure I’ve missed some gems. So if you have any extra suggestions, let me know!

Where is London?

London is Britain’s capital city… Located in the south east region of the country. The home to central national venues and amazing tourist attractions… From the seat of UK Government (The Houses of Parliament) to the Royal Residence of Buckingham Palace…. We have The London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, Harrods, Covent Garden and the Tower of London. At every turn, the city is steeped in history and tradition and is an amazing place to spend time. There are ancient markets, vast green parks, incredible walks, museums and shops for every taste and budget… With the River Thames meandering through its centre, there are old bridges to explore and river trips and taxis along the way.

But this post is all about food… A specific foray into Central London’s gluten free offering. So read to eat… And hop over to Get Your Guide to explore the rest.

The Guide that covers Central London Gluten Free

To be clear… THIS guide covers CENTRAL London. That is the City of London, Westminster and the West End (including Soho, Covent Garden and Mayfair).

For other areas of London, I’m compiling guides one by one. Given that London is such a busy metropolis with SO many eateries, putting them all in one guide seems unhelpful. And as visitors tend to cover specific areas of the city one at a time, offering a direct guide to where you are is (I hope) a good way to go.

My other comprehensive London guides (so far) include:

Note on recommendations for Gluten Free Central London venues

Venues listed in this Central London Gluten Free guide are based on personal experience and/or detailed research as a Coeliac seeking to eat out in the city.

While information is as up-to-date as possible (and venues are only included where I would personally be happy to eat), be aware that places change menus, suppliers and ownership without warning. As such, it remains essential that you directly check a venue’s status and Coeliac-safety both before booking and ordering, to ensure you are happy to eat there.

If you visit a venue on the list that did not feel safe, or indeed has closed, please let me know so I can amend the guide.

London-China-TownPin

Disclaimer on behalf of venues listed in this Gluten Free London guide

It’s important to remember that (wherever you eat) restaurants and cafes are working kitchens catering for lots of people. This means that however safe it is, the menu comes with a disclaimer of risk (this will include Coeliac-accredited venues)… It’s not there to offend us. It’s a statement of legal position to make clear that every customer has personal responsibility in choosing to eat there. This statement does NOT mean the venue is automatically unsafe, or that you shouldn’t eat there.

However… Remember the usual rules apply (regardless of recommendation from me or anyone else). ALWAYS tell a venue you are Coeliac when booking and again when ordering.  Ask as many questions as you need to in making a safety judgement. Assess the trust you place in them. And if you don’t feel completely comfortable with what you hear or see, walk away and find somewhere else to eat.

If you’re not confident about what to ask, head over to my Page: Living with Coeliac Disease: Eating Out – Restaurants and Fast Food. I share lots of tips on what to look for and questions to ask when choosing an eating venue and ordering gluten free food.

How to use my Coeliac Guide to Gluten Free Central London

The venues listed in my guide to Gluten Free London are only places I feel personally safe to eat as a Coeliac.

  1. Bakeries, Cafes and Treats (🔴)
  2. Restaurants and Venues serving meals (sit down and takeaway) – Independently Run (🟣)
  3. Chain Restaurants (nationally well-known) (🟢)
  4. Afternoon Teas (🟡)

Venues that are 100% gluten free OR accredited by Coeliac UK are marked with a ⭐️.

Click the little square in the top right corner of the shared map below and it will open up into something bigger…

1. Gluten Free Central London – Bakeries, Cafes and Treats (🔴)

Copains (French Patisserie Bakery) ⭐️ 100% gluten free

Where: 54 Neal Street, London WC2H 9PA (Covent Garden) (Website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Covent Garden & Leicester Square

What: Copains (meaning ‘friends’) is a famous Parisian 100% gluten free bakery that now has 2 stores in London. The Central London shop is located in Neal Street (just around the corner from Covent Garden), the second store is in Islington. Copains offers French patisserie, filled ‘on the go’ focaccia and baguettes, cakes, bread and cookies. None of it is ‘cheap’, but (to be honest) it matches the ‘expected’ London prices of other (non-gluten free) bakeries in the area. And is parallel with other gluten free bakeries. Many of their products are dairy free or vegan (in addition to being gluten free).

Recommendations: Paris Brest and Éclair choux pastries; chocolate (cocoa) bread; apple pie; filled baguettes; chocolate chip Swiss Bread; raisin roll, cinnamon roll (best heated).

Cream Dream (Ukranian Vegan Pastry Café) gluten free Bakery

Where: 46 Bedford St, London WC2E 9HA (Covent Garden) (website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square; Covent Garden; Embankment; Charing Cross)

What: Also located in Covent Garden, Cream Dream is one of my favourite gluten free bakery places. Easy to spot by its very pink frontage and interior, it’s an amazing Ukrainian community café, that serves delicious Ukrainian dumplings, soups, sandwiches, breakfasts and vegan gluten free pastries, croissants and cakes. Yes, it’s expensive! But it’s also perfect for a simple, tasty brunch/lunch or a lovely pot of Carpathian tea with a sweet pastry treat. The pastries can be boxed to take away too.

*NOTE: As at April 2026, while all their bakery items remain gluten free, some of their savoury meals and breakfasts now contain gluten.

Borough 22 Doughnuts ⭐️ 100% gluten free

Where: Selfridges Food Hall: 400 Oxford Street, London W1A 1AB (website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Bond Street; Marble Arch; (Oxford Circus))

What: For a safe gluten free AND vegan fried doughnut that is as close as you will get to the real deal (other than making them yourself!) the only place to head is Borough 22 Doughnuts, located in Selfridges Food Hall. They also sell baked doughnuts, although let’s be honest a ‘proper’ doughnut is always fried.

Borough 22 also do weekend supplies to a couple of other London spots (see their website for stockists). Be aware that the doughnuts are sometimes super-fresh and perfect, but equally, I have bought them when they have gone stale… So check exactly when they were brought into store when you make your choice to get the freshest options. The Yum Yums tend to be more reliable for freshness as they are fully glazed.

La Maritxu (Basque Cheesecake) ⭐️ 100% gluten free

  1. Soho: 10 Kingly Street, Carnaby, London W1B 5PJ (website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus; Piccadilly Circus)
  2. Connaught: 12 Connaught Street, St George’s Fields, London W2 2AF (Nearest Tube: Marble Arch)

What: La Maritxu serves decadently delicious, rich and creamy, authentic Basque cheesecake. It’s simple and delicious and can be bought by the slice for the ultimate dessert treat. There are usually 2 or 3 flavours on offer, all baked to a traditional recipe.

What: For cookies in central London, The After School Cookie Club is a good option. It’s not completely gluten free, but they do offer a wide range of gluten free cookies, cookie dough pots, ice cream cookie sandwiches and cookie shakes. Options include Oat and Raisin Crumble, Strawberry and Marshmallow, S’mores and Peanut Choc-Caramel. They’re definitely better than many of the cookies you’ll find in the capital.

Floozie Cookies – Covent Garden

Floozie Cookies

Where: 15 The Market Building, Lower Ground, London WC2E 8RE (Covent Garden) (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden; Leicester Square)

What: Floozie Cookies can be found downstairs in the main undercover market building in the centre of Covent Garden. They offer just two gluten free cookie choices in their range… Black Forest, and Peanut Butter and Jam. Although they can’t guarantee risk from cross-contamination, they were very careful when I visited, and I had no ill-effects from eating there.

They weren’t my favourite London cookies (personally, I found them a bit ‘ricey’ and over-sweet), but they’re nonetheless worth a visit if you fancy something quick, sweet and reasonably priced.

My Old Dutch Pancake House

Where: 131 to 132 High Holborn, London WC1V 6PS (Holborn) (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Holborn)

What: My Old Dutch serves (you guessed it) pancakes… sweet and savoury. The menu is marked for most allergens with a clear key. And most pancakes (including kids menu pancakes) can be made gluten free, with vegan, dairy free and other options as required. As with most restaurants, there is a shared kitchen risk. Reviews are mixed.

My Old Dutch has two London restaurants – this one in Holborn and another in Chelsea.

Rodeo Doughnuts

  1. Soho: 96 Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1D 5EB (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)
  2. Covent Garden: 78 Long Acre, London WC2E 9NG Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)
  3. Charing Cross: 17 Villiers Street, London WC2N 6NG Nearest Tube: Charing Cross; Embankment)
  4. Fleet Street: 46 Fleet Street, Temple, London EC4Y 1BP Nearest Tube: Blackfriars)

What: Rodeo Doughnuts is a rebrand of the previous ‘Doughnut Time’. It’s a popular nationwide chain of doughnut stores, that includes in their offering a small but tasty selection of gluten free baked doughnuts. Rodeo bakes, decorates and packs all their gluten free products in a dedicated facility and sells them pre-packaged to avoid risk from cross-contamination.

Lola’s Cupcakes

  1. Covent Garden: 18 Neal Street, London WC2H 9LY (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)
  2. Tottenham Court Road: Tottenham Court Road Underground Station, Oxford Street, London W1D 2DH (Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road)
  3. Oxford Street: Selfridges Food Hall, Oxford Street, 400 Oxford Street, London, W1A 1AB (Nearest Tube: Bond Street)

What: Lola’s is a bit of a London cupcake institution. While most of what they offer is not safe for us, they do sell a handful of pre-boxed gluten free cupcakes which are beautifully presented and delicious. In addition to a handful of small shops across the city, keep an eye out for their cabins in London’s underground stations.

Amorino Gelato

  1. Soho: 41 Old Compton Street, London W1D 6HF (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square; Piccadilly Circus)
  2. Covent Garden: 7 Garrick Street, London WC2E 9AR (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)

What: Amorino Gelato is an authentic Italian Gelateria with an extensive network of stores across Central London and beyond! Their ice creams (although expensive) are piped into beautiful rose shapes on top of gluten free cones. But they also serve other sweet treats, gelato cakes and gelato macaron, as well as hot and cold drinks. All the gelato flavours are gluten free, as are the macaron and gelato cakes.

Chin Chin Labs Ice Cream

  1. Soho: 54 Greek Street, London, W1D 3DS (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square; Tottenham Court Road)
  2. Seven Dials: Seven Dials Market, Earlham Street, London WC2H 9LX (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)

What: Chin Chin Labs is probably my favourite London ice cream brand. The first time I had it, my mind was blown! Handmade to order by freezing ice cream using liquid nitrogen, the texture is smooth and silky and utterly decadent. All the ice cream flavours are gluten free, as are many of the toppings, sauces and some of the desserts. But check what’s on offer when you visit as not everything is safe.

Recommendation: Burnt Butter Caramel Ice Cream with Chocolate Fudge Sauce.

Venchi Chocolate & Gelato

  1. Wardour: 143 Wardour Street, London W1f 8WA (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus; Leicester Square; Tottenham Court Road)
  2. Carnaby: 32 Great Marlborough Street, Carnaby, London W1F 7JB (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)
  3. Long Acre: 38 Long Acre, London, WC2E 9JT (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)
  4. Covent Garden: Unit 18, The Market Building, London WC2E 8RB (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)
  5. Piccadilly: 164-5 Piccadilly, London W1J 9EE (Nearest Tube: Green Park; Piccadilly Circus)

What: I haven’t actually tried Venchi Ice Cream myself, but a number of Coeliac bloggers rate it positively. I understand some of the gelato flavours are made without gluten ingredients, however their website has a clear warning on all ingredient lists for possible cross contamination. Apparently, if you tell staff you are Coeliac, they may provide gelato from a new tub and use a fresh scoop. I can’t verify, but be aware of the potential risk balance when considering it as an option. If you’re looking for chocolate however, Venchi has plenty of choice.

Chapter 8 Bakehouse (Gluten Free-Vegan Bakery Stall) 100% ⭐️

Where: Berwick Street Market, Berwick Street, London W1F 0PH (website 🖕) Wednesday; Saturday. (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus; Tottenham Court Road).

What: Chapter 8 is a new 100% gluten free and plant-based bakery operating both online for LOCAL (North London) delivery and from a couple of London Markets. They are at the Central London Berwick Street Market on Wednesday and Saturday and a couple of North London markets within each month (see website 🖕 for details). I’ve yet to try Chapter 8, but they offer a range of sweet bakes including cakes, cookies, brownies, blondies and cheesecake.

2. Gluten Free Central London – Restaurants serving meals (sit down and takeaway) – Independently Run (🟣)

Indigo at One Aldwych ⭐️ 100% Gluten Free & Dairy Free Fine Dining

Where: 1 Aldwych, London WC2B 4BZ (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Temple; Covent Garden)

What: There’s no better place to start with Central London gluten free restaurants than Indigo at One Aldwych. If you’re looking for somewhere a little bit special, it’s definitely at the top of the list. This fine dining restaurant is located in the 5 star One Aldwych Hotel and is a ‘must eat’ London destination for Coeliacs. The entire, carefully crafted menu is 100% gluten free AND dairy free and with its incredible attention to detail makes you feel thoroughly important!

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the choice is both extensive and safe. Granted, it’s one of the more expensive venues on the list, but this is top end gluten free dining and perfect for a special event or to celebrate gluten freedom at its best.

Bubala (Middle Eastern)

Where: 15 Poland Street, London, W1F 8QE (Soho) (Website 🖕) (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)

What: With three restaurants across London (Soho being its central venue), Bubala is a vegetarian restaurant with an exciting Middle Eastern menu. From mezze and a la carte to sharing menus, it’s dishes are packed with flavour and colour, in celebration of vegetables! The menu is almost entirely naturally gluten free (with items that are not safe marked) and with a good understanding of cross contamination.

Ugly Dumpling (Asian Dumplings)

  1. Carnaby: 1 Newburgh St, Carnaby, London W1F 7RB (Soho) (Website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus; Piccadilly Circus)
  2. Fitzrovia: 30 Rathbone Place, London W1T 1JG (Fitzrovia) Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road)

What: If you thought Asian dumplings were a thing of the past for Coeliacs… think again! The Ugly Dumpling has become one of my favourite Gluten Free London eating spots. Serving amazing Asian dumplings, gluten free tempura and noodles, they have a separate gluten free menu, well-tested by the Coeliac community and with good protocols for food safety. From meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options to sweet dumplings, there’s something for everyone here. Take it from me… Ugly Dumplings are a ‘must eat’.

Ugly Dumpling has two restaurants located centrally in London: Carnaby and Fitzrovia. The Fitzrovia restaurant is definitely my favourite of the two… much bigger than the Carnaby venue, yet welcoming, fun and colourful. They also now have a restaurant in Brixton.

Recommendations: GF Savoury Dumplings Platter; GF Dessert Dumplings Platter; Tempura Aubergine; Ugly Noodles.

Six by Nico (Modern European & Tasting Menus)

Where: 41 Charlotte St., London W1T 1RR (Fitzrovia) (Website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Goodge Street; Tottenham Court Road)

What: I’ve yet to eat at Six by Nico, but it’s absolutely on my hit list! Describing itself as offering ‘casual, affordable fine dining’, the food looks interesting, beautiful and delicious. Their menus change every 6 weeks and are inspired by theme, destination or concept. It’s a favourite with a fellow Coeliac blogger friend of mine (Kasia’s Plate) who offers great reviews on safety and yumminess. Check out one of her Instagram Posts on the venue here.

This is now a national venue with 2 London restaurants (Fitzrovia and Canary Wharf) and multiple other venues in cities across the country.

Mowgli (Indian Street Food Restaurant)

Where: 5 Charlotte Street, London, W1T 1RE (Fitzrovia) (Website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Goodge Street; Tottenham Court Road)

What: I’m a huge fan of Mowgli, which serves North Indian street food as small sharing dishes, presented in tiffins. It’s absolutely not your usual Indian restaurant. Flavours are subtle, yet packed with flavour, vibrant, colourful, delicious and not over-hot. Much of the menu is naturally gluten free and staff have a good understanding of cross-contamination. The Sticky Chicken is divine!

NOTE: I understand that in late 2025, some suppliers added a ‘may contain’ warning for base ingredients re production processes. Mowgli are working to address this change, but in the meantime, the risk status is increased.

Casa do Frango (Portuguese)

Where: 31-33 Heddon St, London W1B 4BN (Mayfair) (Website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus; Oxford Circus)

What: Casa do Frango is high on my list of ‘must go and eat there’ venues. It sounds (and looks) absolutely fabulous. With three restaurants across London (the central one being their Mayfair branch), they serve Portuguese food made for sharing… Tapas-style charcoal-grilled meats, fish, veg, small plates and sides, most of which are naturally gluten free. Although not a fully gluten free restaurant, the menu is well-marked and staff are reported to be well-versed in Coeliac dining.

Mathan (Contemporary Indian)

Where: 49 Maddox St, London W1S 2PQ (Website 🖕) Nearest Tube: Bond Street; Oxford Circus)

What: Located in the heart of Mayfair, Mathan is a modern, fine dining Indian restaurant with a nonetheless affordable price tag. Serving authentic cuisine that celebrates a fusion of Indian flavours, it also has a dedicated gluten free menu which incorporates most of the standard offering. Perfect for celebrating!

Honest Burgers (Burger Chain)

  1. Covent Garden: 33 Southampton Street, London WC2E 7HE (Website🖕) (Nearest Tube: Embankment; Covent Garden; Temple)
  2. Soho: 84 Brewer Street, London, W1F 9UB (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus)
  3. Soho: 4a Meard Street, London W1F 0EF (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)
  4. Oxford Circus: 4 Market Place, London, W1W 8AD (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)
  5. Leicester Square: 17 Garrick Street, London WC2E 9AX (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)

What: With dozens of restaurants across London and nationally and with more opening all the time, Honest Burgers has built an empire of burger bars… And deservedly so. It’s considered a ‘go to’ for Coeliacs… An extensive menu of delicious burgers, their famous rosemary salted chips and onion rings, AND the option to order homemade gluten free chicken tenders and wings… All with a great understanding of cross-contamination and Coeliac safety. The burgers? Fresh, juicy, with locally-inspired ‘specials’ and all super-tasty! (Selection of Gluten Free Central London venues listed above)

Hobson’s Fish and Chips

  1. Soho: 27 St Anne’s Court, London W1F 0BN (Website) (Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road)
  2. Charing Cross: 15 Villiers Street, London WC2N 6ND (Nearest Tube: Charing Cross; Embankment)

What: Fancy traditional fish and chips? There are now several gluten free options to choose from… Hobson’s being one of the better known. Their two Central London locations (Soho and Charing Cross) offer a Coeliac-friendly menu, cooked with gluten free batter and in a separate fryer to order… And they are incredible! Crisp batter that stays crisp (even after a lengthy walk with the box closed) and fluffy-crispy chips. Their menu is clearly marked, with additional options for onion rings, battered halloumi, kids portions and even apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding and fudge cake!

If you’re out near Paddington, they have a third restaurant there too. (Note: Menus vary slightly between venues)

The Mayfair Chippy (Fish and Chips)

Where: 14 N Audley St, London W1K 6WE (Mayfair) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Bond Street; Marble Arch)

What: With two restaurants in London, the Mayfair Chippy is another gluten free fish and chips option in Central London. The Mayfair branch is located close to Oxford Street (the second restaurant being in Knightsbridge). Although the online menu is not GF marked, I am told they do offer separately fried fish and chips… The vast majority of reports regarding Coeliac-safety have been positive, but be aware the kitchen is small, so be certain to ask and confirm that you are happy before ordering.

Fishoria (Fish & Chips)

Where: 52-54 New Oxford St, London WC1A 1ES (Website) (Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road; Holborn)

What: Another great gluten free fish and chips option comes from Fishoria located in New Oxford Street. With separate fryers and a good understanding of cross-contamination,  they serve fish and chips, cod bites and onion rings to our community!

El Pollote (Latino Fried Chicken)

Where: 13 Ganton Street, Carnaby, W1F 9BL (Carnaby) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus; Oxford Circus)

What: At El Pollote, you can eat Latino fried chicken… And it’s good!! Most of the menu is gluten free, slathered and sprinkled with divine Latino seasonings and sauces and is, frankly, to die for! From mini arepas, to empanadas, fried chicken, salads, corn tortillas, dips and fries, this is a place to indulge shamelessly.

El Pastor (Mexican Taqueria)

Where: 66 to 70 Brewer Street, Soho, W1F 9UP (Soho) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus)

What: Another venue on my ‘must try’ list is El Pastor, a Mexican restaurant specialising in tacos. Traditional Mexican food is often a positive Coeliac option, as corn is a staple in the kitchen. El Pastor, however, takes tacos up a level, being listed in the Michelin Guide and promising a vibrant, social, authentic experience. They offer a separate gluten free menu in-house, with various options including corn tortillas, tacos, tostadas, salsas, starters and sides. Coeliac-safety is reported to be good. The Soho branch is one of 4 restaurants across London, the others being located at Borough Market, Battersea and Kings Cross.

Lahpet (Burmese)

Where: 21 Slingsby Pl, London WC2E 9AB (Website) (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden; Leicester Square)

What: As a total gluten free foodie heaven, London even has the choice of Burmese cuisine via Lahpet. With 3 venues across London (this one being located in the West End), they offer a clearly marked menu with many of the dishes being naturally gluten free. From gently spiced curries to noodle bowls, salads and other divine southeast Asian delights, this is another great place to have on the list.

Los Mochis (Mexican-Japanese Fusion) ⭐️ 100% gluten free

Where: 9th Floor, 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2AT (City) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Liverpool Street)

What: Los Mochis is on the fringes of my gluten free Central London area, but is a great option to include, not least because the menu is 100% gluten free. The City restaurant is a larger sister to their smaller Notting Hill venue and with a very slightly wider menu. I’ve eaten at both… The Notting Hill venue is definitely more casual and relaxed. But at both venues, the food is incredible and absolutely worthy of a visit, whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.

Recommendations: Huevos al Salmon; Churros; Masa Chicken & Waffles; Pato Carnitas; Shitake; Chipotle Calamari; Ube Panna Cotta; Tres Leches Baked Alaska.

Terra Rossa (Italian)

  1. St Paul’s: 62 Carter Lane, London EC4V 5EA (St Paul’s) (Website) (Nearest Tube: St Paul’s; Black Friars)
  2. La Cantina: 5 to 7 Limeburner Lane, London EC4M 7AX (St Paul’s) (Nearest Tube: St Paul’s; Black Friars)

What: For a solid gluten free Italian menu located in central London, Terra Rossa has 2 restaurants located in St Paul’s (and a third in Islington). They cook dishes to order from a separate gluten free menu, with a good understanding of cross-contamination. Options include gnocchi and orecchiette pasta (a rare find), as well as gluten free pizza and a selection of traditional Italian meat, fish and veggie dishes.

Wingmans (Fried Chicken Wings)

Where: 29-31 Old Compton St, London W1D 5JS (Website) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)

What: Wingmans is a ‘wingery’ located in Covent Garden. The menu is clearly marked for gluten free options, which although limited are advertised as ‘Coeliac friendly’. Options include a small number of the wings dishes and fries.

Golden Phoenix (Chinese)

Where: 37-38 Gerrard St, London W1D 5QB (Website) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)

What: Golden Phoenix is an exciting addition to Central London’s gluten free restaurant scene. Located in the heart of China town (Soho), it offers an extensive menu of gluten free hand-made Dim Sum (dumplings, etc) and other Chinese dishes. They have an excellent understanding of cross-contamination risk and have worked hard to offer a Coeliac-safe menu.

New Young Cheng (Chinese)

Where: 22 Lisle St, London WC2H 7BA (Website) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)

What: New Young Cheng offers another possibility for gluten free Chinese food in China Town (Soho). They don’t have a separate gluten free menu, however, do have a number of gluten free options and are clued up on cross-contamination and fry using a separate pan, etc. I’ve not eaten here myself (yet), but they have been ‘verified’ by the Coeliac community as safe.

Khao Bird (Northern Thai BBQ)

Where: 24 Brewer St, London W1F 0SN (Website) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus; Leicester Square)

What: Also in Soho (opened November 2025), is Khao Bird which serves Northern Thai BBQ. Around 90% of the menu is naturally gluten free and they are able to cater safely as regards anti cross-contamination awareness and measures. This one absolutely has to be tried!

Recommendations: Mutton Fries; Chiang Mai Chicken

  4. Marylebone: 44 James St, London W1U 1EY (Nearest Tube: Bond Street)

What: Recommended by fellow Coeliacs, Flat Iron is an independent steak chain restaurant with branches across London and in major cities across the country. They have a separate allergen menu (with the standard ‘may contain’ disclaimer), and offer gluten free steaks and sides (including safe chips).

Steakhaus (Steak)

Where: Seven Dials Market, 35 Earlham Street, Seven Dials, London WC2H 9LD (Covent Garden) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)

What: If you’re big on steak, Steakhaus is another central London option. Located in Seven Dials Market, Covent Garden, they are reported to offer gluten free, Coeliac-friendly options, including chips. I’ve not personally eaten there, but reports from the Coeliac community indicate they are aware of cross-contamination and can provide a safe meal.

Vantra Vegan ⭐️ 100% gluten free (Plant Based)

Where: 5 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1D 6PB (Soho) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus; Leicester Square)

What: While I couldn’t find a definitive menu or allergen statement on the Vantra website, I understand from others who have eaten here that it is a 100% vegan and gluten free restaurant… And let’s be honest, gluten free-vegan restaurants are hard to find! By all accounts, it has a clear focus on nutrition and health and while most of the reviews are very positive, I get the impression that for some, it was a little ‘hardcore’.

The Port House (Spanish Tapas)

Where: 417 Strand, London WC2R 0PD (Website) (Nearest Tube: Charing Cross; Embankment)

What: With an extensive separate gluten free menu, most of the dishes at The Port House are either naturally or can be adapted to be Coeliac-friendly. They have one of the widest Spanish Tapas menus I’ve come across… Perfect for sharing with friends and family. Gluten Free bread is available and there are also a few options for gluten free dessert!

Bancone (Italian – Fresh Pasta)

  1. Covent Garden: 39 William IV St, London WC2N 4DD (Website) (Nearest Tube: Charing Cross; Leicester Square)
  2. Golden Square: 8-10 Lower James St, London W1F 9EL (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus)
  3. Russell Square : Russell Sq, London WC1B 5BB (Coming Soon) (Nearest Tube: Russell Square)

What: Bancone is a gem. It serves affordable, Michelin Bib fresh pasta within an informal group of London restaurants. That includes FRESH gluten free pasta which is incredible. While they state that the pasta is made in-house and there is therefore a risk of cross-contamination (as would be the case for most restaurants), they do understand Coeliac needs and take every precaution to ensure your meal is as safe as possible. The gluten free element of the menu is limited, but boy, is it worth eating! I absolutely loved my meal here.

Hoppers (Sri Lankan)

  1. Soho: 49 Frith Street, London W1D 4SG (Website) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)
  2. Marylebone: 77 Wigmore Street, London W1U 1QE (Nearest Tube: Bond Street)

What: Hoppers is on my ‘must try’ list. For anyone new to Sri Lankan food, a hopper is a traditional basket-shaped crepe, made from rice flour (and thus naturally gluten free). This is served alongside a curry of your choice with one or two sides. I can’t verify the ‘heat’ level, but if you get there before me, do let me know! At Hoppers, most of the menu is gluten free and they are reported to have a good understanding of Coeliac safety.

Honest Greens (Wholefoods)

Where: 21 St Anne’s Ct, London W1F 0BJ (Soho) (Website) (Nearest Tube:Tottenham Court Road; Leicester Square)

What: Honest Greens is new to the UK (with restaurants elsewhere in Europe), serving dishes with an emphasis on healthy, nutritional, whole foods. From salads, plates and bowls combining veggie, meat and fish options, the menu is about 90% gluten free (including sauces and dressings), with meals that are customisable to meet your needs.

Urban Greens (Salads) ⭐️ 100% gluten free

Where: Ground Floor, 1 New Change, London EC4M 9AF (Website) (Nearest Tube: St Paul’s; Mansion House; Bank)

What: Urban Greens is (rather uniquely) a salad restaurant with half a dozen venues across London. Even better, it’s 100% gluten free! With plenty of bright, delicious, colourful and nutritious salad bowls and trays, including meat, fish and veggie options, it’s a great place to grab a healthy, speedy lunch.

Dirty Bones (American Comfort Food)

Where: 14 Denman St, London W1D 7HN (Soho) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus)

What: A New York-inspired restaurant serving food and cocktails… Ribs, wings, tacos, chicken, burgers, waffles etc. about 70% of which is gluten free (including the waffles). They have a good understanding of cross-contamination and use separate fryers and waffle-irons. This one’s a must try!

Burger & Beyond (Burgers)

Where: 10 Old Compton St, London W1D 4TF (Soho) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square; Covent Garden; Tottenham Court Road)

What: Burger & Beyond is a modern burger and steak restaurant serving unique flavour combinations, available with gluten free buns. They state on their website that they are able to cater for allergies and say they take extra care in food preparation. It’s not clear whether they have a separate fryer however, so check before ordering. Let them know your dietary needs when you arrive. I’ve seen both excellent and less positive reviews from the Coeliac community, so ask plenty of questions. (I’ve yet to eat here myself).

The Salad Project (Fast-Food Salad Bar)

  1. Bond Street: 45-47 Duke Street, London W1U 1LP (Website) (Nearest Tube: Bond Street)
  2. Oxford Circus: 23-25 Great Portland St, London W1W 8QD (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)
  3. Tottenham Court Road: 23-24 Tottenham Ct Rd, London W1T 1BJ (Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road)
  4. New Street Square: Nevill Ln, London EC4A 3AP (Nearest Tube: Chancery Lane; Blackfriars)

What: The Salad Project is a ‘fast food’ style restaurant specialising in salads and protein bowls that can be customised from a served salad bar. While it’s not a dedicated kitchen, there are lots of options, with most of the ingredients being naturally gluten free. The menu is clearly marked. Be sure to tell them you are Coeliac, so they will take extra care.

Sale e Pepe Mare (Italian Fine Dining)

Where: At The Langham: 1c Portland Place, W1B 1JA (Marylebone) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)

What: Opened in March 2026, Sale e Pepe Mare is the sister restaurant to it’s Knightsbridge venue. The new restaurant (located in the Langham Hotel) has a seafood-focussed menu which is extensively gluten free. Sale e Pepe is not your average Italian however. Be aware that this is high-end dining with a price tag to match!

Tigermilk (Latin-American)

Where: 127 Charing Cross Rd, London WC2H 0EW (Website) (Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road)

What: Tigermilk is a small European chain restaurant that serves a vibrant Latin American-Mexican menu. With plenty of gluten free options across courses (clearly marked on the menu), alongside a colourful range of cocktails, Tigermilk promises a tasty meal. I’ve not eaten here yet… but it’s on my hit list! Reported to have a good understanding of cross-contamination, but be sure to let them know your health needs when you arrive.

Al Dente (Italian)

Where: 51 Goodge Street, London W1T 1TG (Fitzrovia) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Goodge Street; Tottenham Court Road)

What: For a more affordable Italian option, Al Dente offers (as the name suggests) a menu which is predominantly pasta and which can be served gluten free (including the possibility of ravioli). The Fitzrovia restaurant is located centrally in Goodge Street. There are a further 3 restaurants across the city. All seem to be predominantly take-away with small seating areas.

I haven’t eaten here, so am unable to verify safety, but reviews regarding the brand seem variable across restaurants. For the Goodge Street branch, they are largely very positive.

Santo Remedio (Mexican)

Where: 13-14 Thayer St, London W1U 3JR (Website) (Nearest Tube: Bond Street)

What: Santo Remedio (Casona & Cantina) serves modern Mexican cuisine at a reasonable price with Michelin Guide recognition. Made for sharing, most of the menu is naturally gluten free, including all the totopos, tacos and tostadas (made with corn tortillas). There are 3 restaurants across London, this one being most central. It has a solid reputation with the Coeliac community for safety.

Vanda’s Kitchen

Where: 42-44 Carter Ln, London EC4V 5EA (Website) (Nearest Tube: Blackfriars; St Paul’s; Mansion House)

What: Located near St Paul’s Cathedral, Vanda’s is unique in specifically offering allergy-friendly catering from a nut free and gluten-free friendly kitchen. It’s not 100% GF, but they know what they are doing here to keep us safe. Whether it’s breakfast, brunch or lunch you’re hungry for, Vanda’s sells safe cold and hot bowls and ‘freedom platters’, sandwiches/bagels, pastries, salads, sweet treats, etc. Perfect for ‘on-the-go’ eats.

MA/NA (100% ⭐️ Gluten & Nut Free Modern Japanese)

Where: 30 Upper Grosvenor St, London W1K 7PH (Website) (Nearest Tube: Marble Arch)

What: MA/NA is a high-end modern Japanese restaurant with a price tag to match. It is, however, also accredited by Coeliac UK and has a 100% gluten free and nut free kitchen. With a tasting menu costing £145 + (pp) however, this one’s definitely for special occasions (and (apparently) invited influencers). Am I a little jealous? Absolutely! The food looks incredible. Maybe one day I’ll make it there!

Coya (Modern Peruvian)

  1. Mayfair: 118 Piccadilly, London W1J 7NW (Website) (Nearest Tube: Hyde Park Corner; Green Park)
  2. City: 31-33 Throgmorton St, London EC2N 2AT (Nearest Tube: Bank)

What: Coya is a modern Peruvian restaurant with a well-marked menu, offering an extensive choice of gluten free South American dishes (meat, fish and veg). They do a good-value set lunch menu (slightly limited for Coeliacs)… But all the other menus (including desserts) have a wide range of gluten free options (albeit with a higher price tag). I’ve not eaten here myself, but Coya is well-rated within the Coeliac community.

They are Coeliac UK accredited and do offer a (rare) full-size gluten free pizza base, with a good range of toppings. There are also a couple of non-pizza options and one or two desserts on offer too.

Brown’s Brasserie ⭐️ Coeliac UK Accredited

Where: 82-84 St Martin’s Lane, Covent Garden, London WC2N 4AG (Covent Garden) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Leicester Square)

What: Browns is a brasserie restaurant also accredited by Coeliac UK and with a good Coeliac reputation. With separate gluten free menus that run from breakfast throughout the day to dinner, there’s plenty of choice. They even offer gluten free afternoon tea. Their central London restaurant is conveniently located in Covent Garden.

Recommendations: Parmesan and Truffle Triple-Cooked Chips; Pan-Roasted Cod; Crème Brûlée.

What: Also accredited by Coeliac UK is Côte Brasserie. A national chain restaurant, they offer a French bistro menu, serving from breakfast until dinner. With three central London locations, the staff are well trained regarding allergens and cross-contamination and the menu is clearly marked. To be honest, there’s so much gluten free choice here, you can’t really go wrong.

Recommendations: Twice-Baked Soufflé; Half Roast Chicken; Grilled Sea Bream; Pistachio Crème Brûlée.

Wagamama (Japanese-Inspired)

  1. Wigmore: 101a Wigmore Street, London W1U 1QR (Website)
  2. Covent Garden: 17 Bedford Street, London WC2E 9HP
  3. Carnaby: 42 Great Marlborough Street, Carnaby, London W1F 7JL
  4. Holborn: 123 Kingsway, London WC2B 6PA
  5. Marble Arch: Unit r01, 6 Marble Arch, Marble Arch Place, London W1H 7EJ
  6. St Paul’s: 1 Ludgate Hill, London EC4M 7AA

What: Wagamama is known for its Japanese-inspired menu served at canteen-style benches. While they do have a separate gluten free menu, it has become more limited recently, so is less appealing than it was. Nonetheless, there are a couple of tasty Asian curries on offer as well as ramen. And the Prawn Kushiyaki and Edamame with Chilli Garlic Salt are still ‘must eats’.

Honi Poke (Hawaiian Poke Bowls)

Selection of stores (Website):

  1. Marylebone: 39 Margaret Street, London W1G 0JQ
  2. Oxford Street: Selfridges Food Hall, 400 Oxford Street, London W1C 1JT
  3. High Holborn: 127-128 High Holborn, London WC1V 6PQ
  4. Baker Street: 13 Baker Street, London W1U 8EQ
  5. Holborn: 28 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1LB
  6. New Street: 6 Great New Street, London EC4A 3BF
  7. Fleet Street: 10 Fleet Street Place, London EC4M 7RB
  8. St Pauls: 144 Cheapside, London EC2V 6BJ
  9. Farringdon: 64 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EG

What: I wasn’t sure whether to add Honi Poke to the Central London gluten free listings, as my personal experience was to be told that they couldn’t offer me anything safe. However, there are a lot of other Coeliacs out there who have had a positive experience. On that basis, I may have been unlucky… And thus I am including them (not least because it is a rare cheaper ‘on the go’ option if you need it).

Honi Poke offer Hawaiian Poke Bowls which look bright and tasty. About half the cold poke bowl menu contains no gluten ingredients and the warm Miso Salmon looks possible too.

Pizza Hut (Pizza) ⭐️ Coeliac UK Accredited

  1. Strand: 56-59 Strand, London WC2N 5LR (Website)
  2. Leicester Square: 19 Leicester Square, London WC2H 7LE
  3. Piccadilly: 29-31 Regent Street, London SW1Y 4NQ
  4. Marble Arch: 523 Oxford Street, London W1C 2QJ

What: The national chain Pizza Hut is accredited by Coeliac UK. To be honest, I’m unsure why this is the case as you are pretty much limited to pizza and wings. The salad bar is not covered by the accreditation. Nonetheless, for those of you who know and love it, it’s there for you in Central London!

ASK Italian

Where: 121-125 Park Street, London W1K 7JA (Mayfair) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Marble Arch)

What: ASK is another UK chain (Italian) restaurant offering gluten free pasta and pizza as well as some dessert options. I haven’t eaten here for years, but as I recall, the pasta was very good.

Dishoom (South Indian)

  2. Covent Garden: 12 Upper St Martin’s Lane, London WC2H 9FB (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden; Leicester Square)

What: Dishoom is a popular Indian café-restaurant that specialises in Southern Indian cuisine. There’s a reasonable safe gluten free choice, although the menu has a lot of additional ‘may contain’ warnings which are frustrating (and I suspect due to manufacturers disclaimers on base ingredients). Either way, staff have a good understanding of what’s on offer and the brand understands cross-contamination safety.

Hard Rock Café (American) ⭐️ Coeliac UK Accredited

Where: Criterion Building, 225-229 Piccadilly, London W1 9HR (Piccadilly) (Website) (Nearest Tube: Piccadilly Circus)

What: The Hard Rock Café has become an international institution, serving American burgers, wings, ribs , BBQ, salads, steaks, etc. But they are also accredited by Coeliac UK, making them a relatively safe bet for Coeliacs. Their Central London restaurant has a solid gluten free (separate) menu, with gluten free buns, seasoned fries and a brownie option for dessert.

Prezzo (Italian) ⭐️ Coeliac UK Accredited

  1. Covent Garden: 116 St Martin’s Lane, London WC2N 4BD (Website) (Nearest Tube: Charing Cross; Leicester Square)

What: Another national chain restaurant accredited by Coeliac UK, Prezzo serves a casual Italian menu, with a varied selection of gluten free options, including pizza, pasta, garlic bread, and a few basic desserts. They have a separate gluten free menu and staff have a good understanding of allergens.

Bella Italia (Italian)

  1. Soho: 61-63 Shaftsbury Avenue, London W1D 6LQ  (Website)
  2. Covent Garden: 65 Strand, London, WC2N 5LR

  4. Covent Garden: 70 St Martin’s Land, London, WC2N 4JS
  5. Charing Cross: 10 Irving Street, Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 7AT

What: Bella Italia also offers a casual Italian food menu with a good selection of gluten free dishes. While mainly pizza and pasta, there are also some tasty meat and fish dishes on offer and some delicious desserts. I’ve been eating at Bella Italia for years and have always found them to be helpful and knowledgeable about Coeliac safety.

Leon (Healthier Fast Food)

  1. Carnaby: 36 Great Marlborough Street, London, W1F 7JF (Website)
  2. Marylebone: 275 Regent St., London W1B 2HB

  4. Hanover Square: 14A Hanover Square, London W1S 1JL
  5. Strand: 73-76 Strand, London WC2R 0DE

What: I LOVE Leon. It’s my ‘go to’ fast food ‘on the go’ option, particularly when I have a train to catch or I’m short on time. The Leon difference is that they offer healthier options and have a positive philosophy around allergens, making much of their menu safe for Coeliacs… From hot rice boxes, chicken and falafel bowls, to chicken nuggets and super salads!

What: Comptoir Libanais is a growing Middle-Eastern chain restaurant serving tasty, affordable Middle-Eastern and North African (Levantine) food. The menu has plenty of options for gluten free meze (small plates) and mains. Think Halloumi, aubergine, Feta, lentils, tagines and grills. Colourful and gently-spiced, the chefs are happy to substitute cous cous for quinoa or rice. Staff were happy to help and appropriately knowledgeable .

Recommendations: Tagines (with quinoa); Chicken Taouk Grill.

  7. Marylebone: 12 Great Portland St, London W1W 8QN
  8. Green Park: 8 Berkeley St, London W1J 8DN

What: Joe & The Juice is a fabulous coffee, juice and sandwich bar. Originally founded in Denmark, they serve great gluten free hot toasted panini sandwiches (to go)… The best I’ve had when out in a long time. Staff who served me had an excellent understanding of cross-contamination risk and toasted my sandwich separately. I seriously recommend these guys if you are after a speedy lunch-on-the-go or a train snack.

Recommendations: JOE’s Club Sandwich (Chicken-Avocado-Pesto Toastie); Serrano Sandwich

4. Gluten Free Central London – Best Afternoon Teas (🟡)

Afternoon tea is a very British institution… it’s meant to be special and make you feel like royalty! There are many gluten free Afternoon Tea options across Central London, all of which vary in price and style. There are themed teas, extra posh teas, traditional and ‘off the shelf’ variants. A handful of recommendations are shared below. However as menus and prices are subject to change, check websites before you book to be sure they suit your ‘vibe’ and your price.

I have only included venues with a defined gluten free/non-gluten menu that is available to view. And also only those venues which are not ‘ad hoc’ events or that need specific significant advance booking for dietary menus.

One Aldwych: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea (from £75 pp)

Where: 1 Aldwych, London WC2B 4BZ (Website) (Nearest Tube: Temple)

What: For an incredible gluten free Central London afternoon tea, a Willy Wonka themed Afternoon Tea can be found at One Aldwych. Note that this is not at ‘Indigo’, but given their incredible knowledge of Coeliac and dietary safety, you are in very safe hands here. This is a truly special option for Coeliacs. Let them know your dietary needs when booking.

It’s not cheap, but this afternoon tea is as decadent as it is fun… With high quality delicious and colourful gluten free treats (including fluffy, tender scones and crisp pastry) that are comparable to the gluten offering.

Sanderson London: Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea (from £65 pp)

Where: 50 Berners Street, London W1T 3NG (Website) (Nearest Tube: Tottenham Court Road; Oxford Circus)

What: The Sanderson Hotel offers a different themed gluten free Afternoon Tea inspired by Alice in Wonderland… The Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea. From ‘drink me’ potions to colourful finger desserts centred around famous characters and flavours, the gluten free menu parallels the standard gluten menu and can also be offered in dairy free and vegan form. Quite the treat!

Fortnum & Mason- The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon: Traditional Afternoon Tea (from £84 pp)

Where: 4th Floor, Fortnum & Mason, 181 Piccadilly, London W1A 1ER (Website) (Nearest Tube: Green Park; Piccadilly Circus)

What: Another lovely option for Gluten Free Central London Afternoon Tea is in The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon (Fortnum & Mason). Fortnum & Mason is a London institution and it’s tea room very much fits an authentic historical British ambience. While at the more expensive end, the gluten free afternoon tea here is a match for the gluten version… traditional, colourful and varied.

NOTE: F&M recently added a disclaimer to their ‘made without gluten’ menu that they are unable to cater for Coeliacs due to being made and served in an environment where allergens are present. It is unclear whether this is a standard legal disclaimer or whether actual practices have changed in their kitchens. I understand from others in the Coeliac blogging community that kitchen staff continue to use separate utensils, gloves and serving stands for the GF option. This suggests that they are taking knowledgeable care…  However, it remains important (as at every venue) to discuss preparation practices (both on booking and arrival) and to make a personal judgement on whether you are comfortable with eating there.

The Langham (Palm Court): Traditional Afternoon Tea (from £85 pp)

Where: 1c Portland Place, London W1B 1JA (Website) (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)

What: For an alternative very traditional Afternoon Tea, head to Palm Court in The Langham Hotel. Apparently, this is the birthplace of afternoon tea. I’ve not been, but the reviews are good (particularly for the scones) and I would expect it to be so, given the high status of this particular hotel. The non-gluten menu is almost identical to the standard tea menu, so there’ll be no ‘pastry envy’. This one’s definitely ‘dress for the occasion’.

Where: 9 Conduit Street, Mayfair, London, W1S 2XG (Website) (Nearest Tube: Oxford Circus)

What: Sketch offers a delightful, traditional gluten free afternoon tea that is almost identical to the standard version. To minimise cross-contamination risk, allergen afternoon teas are prepared in a separate area of the kitchen. The tea itself is rated positively by fellow Coeliacs (I have not tried it myself) and is served in a quirkily arty gallery restaurant.

More Gluten Free Travel Guides

Thank you for reading. I hope you found my Gluten Free Central London Guide helpful. Do let me know where you ate and your favourite venues with a comment at the bottom or an email to kate@glutenfreealchemist.com

As always, my travel guides are provided for free as I strongly believe information on where Coeliacs can safely eat should be available without payment. However, a lot of time and eating goes into researching recommendations and writing up the guides. NONE of my recommendations are the result of freebies or invites, so you can be sure that they are not ‘obligated advertising’.

If you have benefited from any of my research and would like to buy me a virtual coffee as a thank you (although this is absolutely not an expectation), you can do so via my Ko-Fi tips page: https://ko-fi.com/glutenfreealchemist

Happy travelling and enjoy London
